I told my manager about my health concerns and that they were contributing to huge anxiety and concentration problems and was not given any sort of help or understanding and I found out that my manager had not shared this with upper management and was instead only communicating his complaints about my performance.Įventually my manager engaged HR to put me on a 'performance improvement plan' which I was excited about because so many of my struggles were due to poor communication around expectations from my manager so I was enthusiastic about having a signed agreement about ways I needed to improve and also used the opportunity to be put onto a project that was more in line with my talents and I feel like my work improved tremendously and other members of my team were impressed with my contributions. A few months into starting there I had a significant health scare with a possible cancer recurrence and I did not feel helped or supported by the company at all. I was really struggling with my work due to being assigned tasks that were not within my skillset and poor communication from my manager made it worse.
